You can die from someone else's misery—emotional states are as infectious as diseases. You may feel you are helping the drowning man but you are only precipitating your own disaster. The unfortunate sometimes draw misfortune on themselves; they will also draw it on you. Associate with the happy and fortunate instead.

So I was hitting on this HB 9 and it was going well. But when I asked her for a drink she said she lived in a halfway house. Fortunately for me I had read the 48 Laws of Power and knew to stay clear of her, even though my dick advised otherwise. The want to sleep with her was strong, but my fear for the repercussions were greater. I think it was cocaine or some other drug she was recovering from.

Lesson learned: Read and internalize The 48 Laws of Power, for they may just save your life.
