What do you mean when you say you can talk?

As in you're good at carrying your end of a conversation?

Because being a good conversationalist means you can actually facilitate the entire conversation and make the other person want to talk more and open up and reveal what makes them interesting.

And to those who don't know what that looks like, it's not as one-sided as you might be imagining.

When done right, it's actually a lot of effort for the other person, because you're not facilitating the conversation by talking your ass off, you're doing so by just steering it in the direction you want it to go and making key statements and asking key questions in a way that challenges the other person to open up and elaborate.

When done right, the other person will be talking their ass off.

That’s not necessarily an avoidant thing though, is it? Being avoidant is more of an attachment thing. Unless you’re talking about AVPD? Which is an entirely different beast, closer related to social anxiety.

But I hear you about people who come off as boring. It can be hard to get anywhere with them when they can’t meet you halfway. Sometimes people are shy at first though and it takes them awhile to get comfortable and open up. As long as they seem interested I don’t have a problem being patient.

Even though I can talk, sometimes I meet superficial and boring people who can't say anything fun or have no content, this irritates me and I end up rejecting them.

Are you sure they aren't just nervous, shy, introverted or like listening to you speak? What have you tried so far to problem solve this issue?

You shouldn't be rejecting them unless it's after multiple tries and they're obviously not wanting to talk at all.

From my experiences, not talking 80% of the time means they like you but are afraid in some manner.
