Hey Seddit,

I’ve been a lurker on this subreddit for years now, and while I have been learning a lot from you all, I have until this point been too afraid to put much into practice. I realize that most of my trepidation stems from my fear of rejection. So I’ve decided I need some exposure therapy.

Everyday for the next month, I’m going to try to get rejected by a romantic prospect. I’ll post a summary of the day, with any successes and, more importantly, the rejections each evening.

Any day which I chicken out and don’t get rejected, I will instead donate $100 to a charity (of your choice?) and am happy to provide proof.

I know that neither my predicament nor my intended solution is particularly original but I know it’s worked for some of you and I’m hoping it might work for me. I need the accountability.

(Also, I had the idea of doing it everyday in September but I realized that if I was actually serious about it I should start tomorrow and not delay or make additional excuses)

Day 1

Hey guys! Sorry for the delay but I did approach and get rejected yesterday. She ended up having a boyfriend who was in the store and I met a minute later. She was super nice throughout the whole interaction, he seemed a bit more eager to end it but still was warm and non confrontational. All in all, a good experience. 8/10. Would get rejected again today.

Day 2

So today I was reading in the park next to a beautiful woman wearing AirPods. At some point, some guy came by handing out flyers and she took one but I told him I was fine. I turned to her and asked if any of the deals on there were actually any good, and we joked around about the food on there and about how we should just hit them all up one right after the other because the savings would be enough to pay off a student loan. I asked her if she wanted to grab a drink sometime and she said she was pretty busy between grad school and work. I said well, we’re free now, why not go to a place I know nearby. She told me she was actually married and was waiting here for her husband (didn’t notice the ring until that moment! She looked my age, and so I’m not used to checking for them), but it was nice meeting me. I said likewise and headed off to another bench where a cute girl was reading. I sat at the bench beside her, which was close to the light we both needed because at this point the sun was setting. After a few minutes, she was checking her phone, so I asked her what she was reading. We talked for a while as well. She went to the same school as me and was taking a class with a professor whom I loved. I asked her if she wanted to grab coffee sometime and she said “I don’t know. I have a boyfriend.” We kept talking for a while and even though she’s no longer someone I will pursue romantically, I did enjoy talking to her and would actually like to be just friends. We exchanged contact info, and I will be hanging out with her soon hopefully!

Day 3

Was busy all day and didn’t leave the house. Donating to WWF.
