http://www.rsdnation.com/node/186637?page=3 (Tyler is halfway down)
A few weeks after first contact with my last ex, I had a few sores, and we both got tested and had HSV 2. A few months later, we broke up, and I looked into PU to have a better chance of finding a girl who'd be down with my herpes-infected ass.
In the 6 months since, I have not had an outbreak, nor even "tingling." I have taken the steps with diet, exercise, sleep, etc to be extremely healthy, as Tyler suggests. I have k-closed/fooled around with some new girls, but I use his advice and say that I've had some bad experience with abortions and pregnancy, and I still have had fun. Have disclosed to my regular f-buddy, and she's fine with it as long as we use condoms (no oral for me).
Nothing changes with herpes in terms of the PU "abundance" philosophy of having a choice in who you date. When I find the right girl for a relationship, I'll disclose to her the pertinent info (my doctor said 1/100 discordant couples infect each other over a year if they use condoms every time), and if she doesn't like it, then I'll use my social skills to find the next girl, easy.
For future one night stands (which I haven't done yet), by ALWAYS using a condom, NEVER having sex when I feel even a little sick, and religiously taking care of myself, aren't I "cleaner" than a regular guy (like how I used to be), who never got blood-tested for HSV while banging out f-closes? Especially if I wait a year or two, when shedding is clinically proven to be much, much less than the first year?
I'd sometimes request the test, but my doctors always said not to bother unless I actively had symptoms. How bad can it be if so many people are asymptomatic?
Herpes is a mild skin rash, and beyond my initial OB, it hasn't affected me in one way, other than the stigma making me feel bad about myself. However, unless someone can prove me wrong, I am going to be cleaner than most other guys who have lots of sex but never request the blood test. If I'm wrong for thinking about this, they're even more wrong for not getting tested.
EDIT: This is more hypothesis than statement of fact. I still have disclosed to my only f-close partner since diagnosis. I think this issue should be more openly discussed given that many PUAs are looking to live a polyamorous lifestyle.
EDIT 2: I realize that ONS are pretty much impossible, unless I'm in another city. If I really want it, I will disclose. Otherwise, I will k-close, #-close, have a day-2 date/talk.
