The main difference between one's antics at school and out in a social environment is that your actions in the educational environment should be more tame. Still engage and elicit interest, but escalating kino from the first conversation is a no-go. In all honesty, school is probably one of the easiest places to break into a conversation with a random lady because there is so much occurring that can spark interest. My suggestions:

Set yourself up preemptively by placing yourself close to her. If you snag the seat next to her in class, it will seem much more casual when you engage in casual conversation.
Do not make yourself look overly invested in her. This isn't a club where people are there solely for the purpose of socializing. If you come across as too heavily invested in trying to get on a girl's positive side while completely ignoring what you're actually "supposed" to be at school for, then you're going to look desperate. Maintain a place in the classroom and make it something you're comfortable with. Make sure that you socialize with others and not just her so you appear to be a fun individual that she WANTS to talk to and know.
The opener: from my experience, using something subtle is very effective, then escalate from there. If you're adjacent to her, this is a piece of cake. Lame things like asking if she got the last sentence from the previous slide or asking if you can borrow a pen CAN work, but are vastly inferior to commenting on something going on. Asking for clarification on something or commenting on something of personal interest sets the stage for an authentic conversation as well as projecting who you are readily. Follow-up with an AUTHENTIC complement; don't give her the same jazz about her hair looking nice if it looks like she winged-it in the morning. These girls are sober and educated, they will call you out if you half-ass it and things won't be pretty.
Introduction, and escalate: turn the conversation from a simple statement of interest into an active conversation that continues throughout the class. The more fluid the conversation, the better.
End of session: leave a positive impact and try to set things up for future contact. If it's the beginning of college, ask her if she has all of her books and try to continue the conversation into a book-store escapade. It sounds lame in print, but it's a gradual progression. If things keep going well set up a coffee date on campus or even a study date. The most important thing to note is that a lot of people go to school with the intent to learn (obviously) and so you shouldn't be too strong with the kino or subtle cues at dating. Take a cutesy approach, then switch to high gear when you get her going to an actual social venue with you.

High School is pure just working social circles and hoping you get a bone thrown. Here's some advice, just fuck around and act like a retard til you get college. People give a fuck so much in high school about reputation but at the end o the day you probably won't see 95% of those people after 1-2 years.
