if it’s possible, start with a question about work (even if you know the answer). here’s an example:

“hey _, did you take note of when _ said he was going out of town?” or even “hey, can you tell me what happened in the meeting while I was out?” —obv I don’t know your situation but I’m sure there’s a question you can ask. from there, you can continue to talk about what was said in the meeting, make a joke, or even comment on “thanks for your help, always can come to you.”

another option if that doesn’t fit right for your situation is possibly a coffee date before a meeting or to meet up to go over papers or work together. a coffee meet up doesn’t have to be romantic but it shows one on one interest in you getting to know her.

from there it might even be a weekly or monthly thing between you two!

Best thing to do is find a commonality, respond to a story. Asking an open ended question, something that will keep the convo going, talking to her in person, creating a vibe, showing her ur fun, interesting, etc... Then you go for the date. You will get rejected if you ask for a date with zero real life rapport.

If you want her to be comfortable you need to do the talkin in person, not over the phone. Sorry but the phone is a waste of time for this type of situations. If you want someone to like you you need to spend time with that person in real life not hiding behind a screen. So your only choice is to build the relationship at work and talk to her at work.

Chances are if you're this far onto the relationship she probably only sees you as a friend at this point. When you dilly dally around taking your time to make a move it only hurts you. And right now you already seemed more invested than she is and it seems like you are in scarcity. If youre more invested into the relationship than she is your neediness is always going to permeate to the surface.

You best bet is to go out and approach girls to get practice.
