Then ask her how her day has been going or what is she up to at the moment. And when she tells you something then ask more questions about it. Be interested in who she is as a person. You want to get to know her and find stuff out about who she is, and share some things about who you are.

She's going to be thinking, "Why is this guy so interested in my pants, is he gay??". Women aren't idiots you can just hoodwink, they are gonna know that you aren't actually interested in their pants, they are gonna know that you are asking this as an attempt to hit on them. She'll then wonder, why is he asking about my pants instead of just hitting on me, the only conclusion is that you aren't confident enough to do it directly and she won't have any interest.
"Hey, you're cute, what's your name?" will do far better.
