if you know he has decent game why not try and set him up with a couple of girls ? like open a set or a girl and then introduce him.
I have a couple of shy/introverted good friends I regularly go out with and something similar happens to me; even if I'm at someone's place where I know nobody at all except the shy friend who brought me I'll eventually start to dominate the conversation/social circle and my friend will generally be sitting next to me listening. I can't help it, I'm a socialite.
What you want to to is similar to what I do: you have to suck him up into your state or he will shrink away. Tell stories that feature the both of you, refer to him for something you don't remember well, coax him to tell people about "that awesome one time when you weren't there but he ..." . even a high five or inclusive body language ( sit right next to him instead of him laying back and you on the edge of your seat with your back slightly towards him being the center of attention ) can help.
same exact concepts can be used contextually with girls. if you are in the zone you can get him there too more easily than if you weren't !

Advice on this would be awesome, have the same issue with two of my closest friends..... Except they end up bitching the next day about being single and that the girls in our city are lame.

How do you push a friend to get to your level game-wise?
People ask this on seddit all the time and the answer is this: YOU FUCKING CAN'T. Here's why: talking to people, being social, and getting girls to like you is an extremely, extremely emotional thing, and it brings out people's biggest fears, insecurities and pride. So most people don't appreciate somebody telling them they are "doing it wrong." It's almost like you are personally insulting them. You are definitely wounding their pride.
I mean, look at seddit. Most of the time when somebody posts some stupid advice and they get called out on it, they get really defensive and douchey. It's because the "game" is very emotional and it literally brings out the worst in people. That's why you can't just walk up to your friend and be like "hey man, your game is all wrong." You can't. The only thing you can do is be a good example and yell at them if they fuck your game up. But you can't get them to do anything they don't want/can't do.
how do I get him to realize that part of the whole game is us guys pushing each other, raising each other's games up
that's not part of the game

You need to think of pickup as you guys trying to help each other get laid and not as a competition. If he's struggling and you know he wants to get better and is capable of it then help him out. Set him up and be a good pal. The goal is to help him hook up with girls correct?
