Eye contact is great and should always be kept. But you are not a robot so try and do it naturally. If you focus on keeping eye contact then you are probably staring. Lets say you have a gf and she sits across from you while the two of you eat breakfast. You will look at her boobs but if you sit and stare at them the entire breakfast it will probably be a bit strange. Think of eye contact like that. You want to maintain it but don't stare. When she breaks eye contact you can look away and return a bit later. It's like ironing your shirt, if you keep the heat on one single place then you will burn your shirt. You need to move around a bit.

Had the same thing happened with my current girlfriend at the beginning, when I made her tell me why she said that it is because she felt intimidated but in a good way. I realized she was deeply in love with me and it made her shy.

There was a post on this sub fairly recently about trying to look at your own reflection in the person's eyes. Maybe try that? It's been working for me.

It seems to keep the person interested and not uncomfortable like staring at their eyebrows or just one eye, like other tips have you do.
