To preface, this is something I've never really had. Even in college I was too shy and introverted to make friends. On top of that I was also really socially awkward and lacked people skills. I never had the chance to make a lot of friends. I'm just starting to socialize properly, but I feel maybe it's a little too late. I feel like getting friends as a graduate is going to be incredibly difficult. I would have to do something that isn't really a usual method of making friends. Usual methods are through high school and college. I would have to put myself in environments like classes where you're not expected to build real friendships beyond friendly small talk whenever you see them. They already have their own real friends already. They don't need new friends anywhere near as much as you do.
These social circles are also crucial since it's incredibly difficult to meet girls that won't flake if you're not very attractive. Dating apps have left me with little success, if any. But then, Meeting a girl in a warm and expected way is a great way to start a relationship.
Of course, I also want social circles because they are a powerful tool in finding jobs. Networking is one of the most important means of getting a job. You are not getting far without it, regardless of qualifications and experience.
I would love to hear from people like me, but that aren't quite like me anymore. People that have felt like shit, but one day decided to do something different that caused their life to completely change for the better. A change that means they always have something to look forward to on the weekends. I get that lots of people often times give helpful advice, but it's not always valid. When that person doesn't know what it's like to start being social much later in life, it's more difficult for them to go into those specific details. Details that they don't even know about, yet they apply them anyway instinctually. They're giving advice that's well meaning and appreciated but unfortunately would mostly apply to already successful people, like them. Not so much beginners like me and other users here. Also, getting advice from a former "loser" just gives us so much confidence that there is a way out. It's something we could realistically do. I'm starting to lose hope though. Am I fucked?
