Her: "Sorry not interested" You: "Alright, Just take it as a compliment"
Or if she says she has a boyfriend, I usually say "Well he's a lucky guy" and then just keep it moving

Women don't want to be approached and told they are cute. It's creepy and I'm surprised you had the chance to run before she did. It also comes across as pathetic and uninteresting.

I'd find this creepy in 99.99% of occurrences, but I guess you're right, there's a chance. I'd drop the "you're cute" part for sure and think of a different way to break the ice. Confidence, voice tone, and posture might scream unsafe to a woman. Men often confuse confidence with what women perceive as creepy, intimidating and unsafe.

I agree with dropping the “you’re cute” and with the fact that it might sound creepy more often than not.
Confidence can be genuinely shown in many ways, which aren’t scary for sure. A calm, firm, smiling voice with a relaxed posture (and respecting personal distance) is usually seen as safe.
Also the context plays important role: I wouldn’t approach a woman on a dark street in some downtown or any other situation where a woman can’t feel safe or free to eject without pains.
