Too easy brother. The basic wisdom is ask her about herself. People love to talk about themselves for the most part and they will have a lot to say on the topic (if they care to chat). Ask her what her passions, hobbies, aspirations are. Ask her what she thinks of this or that. Ask her opinion on something, anything. This is the basis of good engaging conversation (what we call “the spit” in my community). If you ask her about herself then you are pretty safe. Obviously every situation is different but this is the cornerstone of good conversation.

The flow of good conversation in its most basic form is: 1) ask her about herself 2) listen to the answer and then comment on it 3) ask her a question about her answer (or another question about herself)

run practice drills of the “question comment question” format with your wingman if you need to get better at this. It’s funand effective

When you can ask interesting questions (usually because you’re knowledgeable on a lot of subjects, see self investment technique-knowledge) and have clever, witty, insightful, or funny comments that’s when you start to become a good conversationalist. But if you are starting out don’t fret and strain to make your comment funny or your question profound, just find the rhythm and keep it going. Conversation is a skill just like any other and you’ll get better over time. You can start adding more advanced things like interesting anecdotes in place of your comment (“that reminds me of a story…”) or leading questions to get the conversation where you want it to go.

Talking about yourself is fine, especially if she asks but a good rule of thumb my community landed on was keep talking about yourself under 25%. Personally I keep it even lower, especially at first. A pretty reliable indicator of whether or not you’re doing well is how much she is talking compared to how much you are talking. The more she’s talking compared to how much you are talking the better. Having to carry the conversation is usually a bad sign.
