(getting back in the game after a year break. field reports will help. would love pointers and comments)

I live in Santa Barbara and was going for a run on a busy street and I see this girl a few blocks away so I start walking and open walking directly up to her. She's looking at her phone so I say "HI!" a little bit louder than a normal person would. I compliment her on her "emo outfit ;)" and we walk and talk for a bit. We talk about moving across the country and tease her a few times, following each one with a compliment.

After standing for a few minutes she starts to walk away and I say "get back here!" in a fun way and point at the ground in front of me. She comes back I give me my number, have her text me, and she walks off a minutes later.

what i did well

  • Probably my strongest open in a while. she definitely felt the open.
  • Made sure she new it was a man to woman conversation and she knew why I was there. like this-- her: "am I that pale?" me: "you're looking like the vampire diaries girl *laugh* but like a hot version you know? Anyway..."-- her: "yeah I just broke up with my boyfriend last week." me: "don't worry i'll be a great rebound. Blah blah blah ..."

what i did poorly

  • I still don't know how to swing through the open. after a couple opening lines I just confidently said "yeah, that was my whole schpeel. I'm kind of nervous can you tell?" her: "lol no!" *silence* *silence* here: "so are you from here?"
  • I got her phone number and I don't think I talked to her enough before she walked away
  • I didn't make specific plans for when we would hang again and didn't get her excited about it
  • She a little bit older so i maybe could have shown more intent
