A great line if you don’t know what to say is “I’ve never done this before so I’m a bit nervous”. If you come off as genuine which it should be then that’s actually a positive and if she does like you she will naturally put a bit more in to try and keep the conversation going.

Here are a few pointers. If you go out for the purpose of trying to pick up women, you will never succeed. Why? Many reasons, but mostly it just comes across as needy and creepy and that gives women the ick. I live in a touristy area of NYC and see wannabe pickup artists loitering around and trying to talk to girls. I see them coming from a mile away, so I can only imagine women see them from five miles away. It’s just weird, don’t do it this way. It’s best to go about your day and when you see someone that catches your eye, go up to them.

I wouldn’t frame this as practicing approaching. I would say frame it as you practicing your flirting skills. The key to flirting is to be playful and humorous, but most importantly not to have any expectations that the woman will reciprocate or that anything will come out of it. As a matter of fact, start flirting with everyone. It’s all about feeling good about yourself and making others feel good too without any expectations.

Here are some good lines you can try:

At the grocery store:

“Hi…I don’t want to come across as one of those guys who hits on women in the grocery store…but I’m totally that guy!”

Hopefully she cracks a smile and you can then say “I’m kidding, I’m kidding! But I really like your style/look/whatever”.

Then don’t linger and try to make conversation. Just keep going like you don’t have expectations that more will come out of this.

Another light hearted flirtatious line you can try with a grocery store cashier is:

“Hey, so how much will I have to flirt with you to give me a discount on these eggs?”

If a girl makes and holds eye contact with you from 3 seconds or more, walk up to her and say:

“Hi, I noticed you noticing me! I have to say: you have excellent taste in men!”

A few other pointers:

Never just loiter around and try to sneak up on girls. Never appear to be somewhere without a purpose, other than picking up women.

When you see someone who catches your eye, position your body to face her and walk in a straight line taking the shortest possible path to her.

Never approach from the back or the side. Never wait around for a woman you saw earlier and then try to accost her as she is leaving the establishment.
