I bumped into an old high school acquaintance while I was working (retail job). I heard someone say you look familiar..so I turned around and I gave her an extended hug as I pretended to not know her name by cycling through generic girls names. She kept calling me rude while smiling and I ended up talking to her for a few minutes before having to help someone else and I had to leave the store for 5 minutes.

After coming back up , I found her and I pretended to help her shop so I could keep talking to her. She wants to go into occupational therapy, I'm going into medicine so it was cool talking about grad school plans. She then asked me so are you going to help me with my bags? She didn't have that much stuff and easily could have taken it herself, so I teased her about being weak and asked her to flex. When she flexed I pretended like she wasn't and she kept saying rude playfully. I wanted to keep talking to her because she seemed receptive to my jokes and was laughing, so I helped her to her car. Before leaving She asked me if I accepted tips and I told her that her number would be better than a tip and she laughed and said I guess my number is better, huh? She then said text me sometime, don't be a stranger! I told her I wouldn't text her and that I would call her, and she said wow I like that.

Here's where I think I fucked it up. I called her and talked for a few minutes and basically said listen, I know you're busy but I wanted to tell you that I think you're really cute and I'd love to take you on a date. She told me she appreciated it but she said she was kinda seeing someone else but suggested coffee and I said I would let her know.

Did I come on too strong by telling her directly? Maybe I misread her receptiveness on Tuesday but I thought I would score a date with her but it didn't work out. I really want to improve where I can so I don't make the same mistakes I've been making. Any input? Thanks
