A little background:
I started my current job a year and some change ago and there was a girl I met there who I always thought was pretty but she had a boyfriend up until a couple months ago. When I find that girl isn't single I immediately cross her off my list of potentials so for the first year that I knew her I never thought about it much beyond the "well maybe someday." This made it pretty east for me to be natral with her. We've always gotten along pretty well, we're able to joke around and talk about things pretty easily so fast-forward to her being single and now I start to seriously think about her as someone I'd want to date.
I'm someone who's suffered from serious lack of self-esteem and low confidence with women. I was the Nice Guy incarnate and I've realized it in the last couple years but I only started attacking it and really committing myself to changing it in the last month and a half (this is entirely coincidental with the girl in question becoming single; I was tired of being depressed and decided to finally do something). I've gone out as often as possible, cut out tv/movies/games, mostly cut out sodas and shit foods, started hitting the gym 5 days/week, and tried taking up new hobbies like surfing, etc.
So about a month ago this girl (let's call her Sarah) texted me to come out so I did. Turned out it was her, her friends, and no one else I knew but I went along with it. I tried to make a good impression on her friends and with her, things escalated in a big way. The touch barrier was shattered that night (she was sitting on my lap, grabbed my ass at one point, and just generally being flirty). We were both drinking so I wrote it off and she was barely a few weeks out of her relationship o I didn't make a move beyond the flirting I had been doing all week. I don't want to be her rebound and I'm not sure I just wanna hook up with her either. She left early-ish with her friends that night and I stayed out. Over the next couple weeks there was a notable change in her behavior around me at work. She no longer tried to talk to me as much and when we did it had a definite awkward vibe. Eventually she reverted back to her normal self but where she hadn't been as flirty before, she definitely was now. There were (and are still) accidental grazes, lingering touches, prolonged eye-contact, but nothing beyond that.
So this past weekend I went to vegas with a couple friends and when I told Sarah that there was a definite change in her voice and demeanor after. Deflated is probably the best way I can describe it. Over the weekend I posted pictures on instagram which she liked and commented, asking when I'd be back. I texted her when I'd be back and told her to meet up with me for lunch which we went to yesterday.
So this, I guess, was our "date." We were only out for an hour tops and I could feel the nerves and anxiety killing me. I still felt like shit from the weekend so that probably played a part but mostly I froze. I couldn't come up with any conversation topic naturally. We were talking about other people from work and I told her a story about this other girl who is interested in me from work and how things became awkward when me and girl #2 hung out the other night. I asked Sarah if she knew anything about it and she said that she'd heard rumors that girl 2 was interested. I told her it wouldn't happen because I try to avoid dating or hooking up with people from work. I'd never told her that before but a lot of people had heard me say it so I wouldn't be surprised if she'd heard it too. She'd had a crazy morning and was dealing with a bunch of errands and whatnot but still made the time to come out so when she had to call it an early day I wasn't surprised. (she told me prior to meeting up that she had stuff to take care of so I don't think I scared her off but I probably didn't give her any reason to stay longer either). I'm till hopelessly inexperienced with women - virgin, haven't had a gf since high school (im 23 now), and I definitely let the nerves get to me over this lunch.
I don't know what to do from here. One of my best friends who's a girl said that I probably didn't fuck anything up too bad but that I need to not try hard going forward and let whatever will happen, happen naturally. Sorry about the wall of text but I realy just needed to get it out there
