This night was both disappointing and encouraging, I feel like I didn't do anything right, but somehow, someone else thought I did.
After bouncing from bar to bar we finally found one with a decent crowd. Lots of girls there, but it seemed like most of them were already with guys. Sitting at the bar, I recognized a guy from my gym and made a point of saying hello, being friendly, trying to be outgoing. Wished him a good night and upon rejoining my friends I noticed a group of 5 or 6 girls in a booth in the far corner. I rally the troops to make the move to the adjacent booth. As we're standing up another 10 or so girls walk in and join the original group, taking 'our' booth before we got there.
We sit at a table nearby table but the setup is awkward and I can't for the life of me figure out how to breach a group of nearly 20 girls. They're all engaged with one another, body language shows they're clearly not there to meet anyone new... I try to make some eye contact but can't catch even a glimpse.
Another friend of mine comes in and joins us. He apparently went to school with a couple of the girls, waved hello, and two of them got up and came over. We chatted a bit, small talk, introductions, nothing really eventful, then the whole group disappeared out the front door.
We get up and move back to the bar for another round. After a few minutes I get up to use the bathroom. The bathroom is at the end of this looped hallway, very secluded. As I leave the mens room there is a girl waiting outside, she says:
"Hi, I've never done anything like this but I saw you at the bar and thought you were really cute... could I give you my number?"
I was blown away. I had no frame of reference for this, hadn't even noticed the girl before, and was caught completely off guard. To be honest, unfortunately I didn't find her all that attractive.
"Oh, wow! Aren't you just so sweet... absolutely, what's your number? I'll text you later this week"
I realized as I said it this sounded kind of condescending and disingenuous, which was reflected in her face. I tried to patch up the situation.
"Here, put it in my phone, I'll text you right now. Then, if you find out I'm a liar, I give you permission to call me vile names."
We walked back to the bar and talked a little bit. After 10 minutes of conversation I found myself less attracted to her, but it was clear she was all about me. I subtly signal my friends we should take off and tell her good night.
Now I have a dilemma, because she was with two other girls, both were pretty cute. I'm thinking about inviting her out to a trivia night, but being very specific that I'm going with friends and telling her to bring hers. Obviously it would be in bad taste for me to game her friends after her approach, but I'd be looking out for my wingmen in this case. Plus, if I can use some anti-seddit countermeasures, maybe we can have a good time, platonically.
