Backstory: I woke up in the morning, had a huge deuce, but had to rush to get to my office so I didn't take a shower as usual. My hair was a mess, I was wearing yesterday's clothes, and I felt like I wasn't properly "clean" and nice as I usually am. In absolutely no way was I thinking about approaching any females that day.

I'm at a local store on my lunch break, and I'm seriously looking for last minute gifts. I'm so absorbed that I didn't notice a tall brunette HB-8 enter the aisle I'm in and start browsing until she was right next to me. Her: "I can tell that look -- you're doing last minute Christmas shopping, right?" Me, surprised: "Yeah, definitely it's hard to shop for people who have everything." A bit of small talk and we part ways, only to meet again in a later aisle. The whole "Following me, eh? *smile*" bit. She blushes. I'm still not in frame because I just have the feeling that I look / smell bad, etc.

So, I give up on finding something and head out the door. She had just finished checking out and walks out at the same time as me. More small-talk, she tells me she's a grad student, etc., killing some time before meeting a friend for drinks. Then she bombs me with: "Hey, would you like to grab a drink with me sometime? Here's my card." Wow... of course I accepted. I was floored. I wasn't using any "technique" other than mild rapport.

The odd thing about this is that it isn't the first time it has happened... It seems I either have to be completely on top of my game or completely out of it.. If I'm middling, then I rarely have success.
