Before I winged, I didn't totally get it. What's in it for me? But, now I see it as a way to practice my conversation skills and it gives the game a new rule: You aren't allowed to eject (without totally screwing your friend, at least). These are the two biggest things I need to work on so I can't wait to wing again. If there's other benefits I'm missing, please enlighten me. What follows is the FR with details:

Went to a bar with a couple of new friends. Let's call them F1 and F2. F2 buys F1 a drink and disappears for the rest of the story. F1 decides he's already drunk enough and doesn't want the drink. Neither do I. So, he just leaves it at the bar and walks away. I tell him maybe he should give it to a girl or something. He mentions that no girl in a bar would accept a drink from a stranger.

Suddenly, a wild set appears. It consists of two girls. Lets name them HB and CB (for cock blocker). F1 mentioned earlier that he thinks HB is really attractive.

Knowing this, I open the set with a line like, "Let me ask you something. If I told you there is a free, untouched beverage on the bar right there for you to drink, would you take it?" They both laughed and said no. I turned it into a convo. I ended up telling a funny story and was the center of attention.

Then I decided to do something I've never done before. I was going to wing for F1. I didn't really know what I was doing. I've read the rules on the right before but I can't remember them. Fuck it, we'll do it live. I shift my attention directly to the CB and let F1 talk to the HB.

Let me tell you, CB REALLY knew what was up and she did not want to have any of it. I tried as hard as I could to hook her into a conversation and nothing was working. I think 75% of it was her just wanting to cock block my friend and 25% of it was me being out of my comfort zone and that getting in the way of my ability to thread conversations.

I was running out of options and conversation topics. I had no idea what to do but I knew I had to isolate her from HB. I decided to take one for the team. I asked CB (and only CB), "Can I buy you a drink?" She said sure and was going to tell me what she wanted but I wasn't going to let her pull that shit. I told her to come with me to the bar and tell me what she wants there. It worked!

I tried to keep her there as long as possible but it wasn't working. Before I could even get a bartender's attention, she looked back at her friend who was clearly enjoying herself and said to me, "You know what? It's ok," and decided she didn't want a free drink. That worked out for me, but it screwed over my buddy because she walked back into the set.

I tried everything I could to distract CB some more but nothing was hooking. I gave F1 a look like, "I can do nothing for you, son!" But I'm not sure if he noticed. CB's body language was directly facing HB giving her puppy dog eyes like, "I want to go home". But, HB's body language was directly facing F1. AFAICT she was into him.

Alas, I could not hold CB back anymore and she broke through. HB said to F1, "We're going to go now but if you run into us later you should definitely say hi".

F1 didn't #-close but he said he had plenty of opportunities and was kicking himself so I don't feel like I totally failed him. Either way, we both felt amazing afterward. Highlight of my night.
