Context
When ever I go to the mall with my friend/friends I usually make 1 or 2 approaches that have up until today resulted in failure. Now the two main friends that I go with never approach with me, they usually heckle and watch me (not the best friends for PU I know...). So today I before going out, I had fb messaged an HB (she has claims to have no cell, I told her to give me her landline, she said fb is better) telling her to give me her landline# so I could tell her our plans for today. I had dressed up in case she fb messaged me back while I was at the mall and I had to go meet her. So I was feeling very confident. I also read an FR beforehand about a money game where a friend takes your money, and for every approach you get a certain amount back to eventually earn all you money back. I ended up giving my friend $20 and he said 5 approaches, $4 for each approach. There was about an hour left till the store closed. I also was shopping.
1st Approach - Inside Clothing Store
I am considering buying a jacket. I walk up to this HB6.5 with this jacket on.
tm: How does this jacket look? (I probably should have said "how do I look?")
S: laughs It's nice.
tm: I feel like it has earthy tones.
S: Hmm, Yeah.
tm: Yeah that was an artsy statement.
S: Mhm. Are you an artist?
tm: No, graphic designer. You have a nice style, are you a fashion designer?
S: No film maker.
tm: Oh! What type of films to you make?
S: I like making music videos.
tm: Cool. I'm a rapper (not a joke) so maybe one day you could do one for me.
S: laughs Yeah!
tm: We should- We should go do- We should go do some activities later on. (Yes, I stumbled hard with this close. Very bad. I obviously wasn't direct enough. I think she took this as a meeting to plan a music video...) takes out phone Give me your number.
S: Yeah! gives number and name
tm: My name is tm btw. (make a joke about my name, can't remember if I shook her hand).
S: laughs
tm: It was nice meeting you.
S: Yeah!
tm: Thanks! (ugh, I really should not have said that...)
She was very responsive, but I feel like she misunderstood the whole thing. I probably won't text her. Unless I need a music video haha.
2nd Approach - Inside same clothing store (1st HB had just left)
I go in with the same "how's this jacket" opening. She tried to drift away through out the conversation. As I remember I just stood right where I was. HB7
tm: (jacket opening+complimenting her style saying she looks like a person who knows clothing)
J: Uhm... It looks good. How much is it? smiles
tm: Only $50.
J: Wow that's good.
tm: Yeah, it's a steal. I feel like a burglar. J attempts to walk away So do you do fashion design?
J: No, Business.
tm: Oh cool, where?
J: Blahblah. (known for partying around my area)
tm: Party school nice. So do you like to party?
J: Sometimes, only on the weekends.
tm: Ah I see, being good girl.
J: attempts to leave again
tm: Well we should party together sometime. If I'm ever in Blahblah area we can do something.
J: Yeah.
tm: takes out phone Give me your number.
J: Here, let me put it in. (What does this say about her?)
tm: Okay. hands phone
J: puts in number That is my real number btw. (Just thinking now... sarcasm?)
tm: Wow! I real number, can't believe it!. (Sarcasm...)
S: laughs (at my sarcasm, not at me)
We say goodbye and part ways. Looking back on the "real number" part and how many times she tried to walk away, I now think the number I got is fake... I did text her a few hours later (late I know), but no response.
3rd Approach - In Shoe Section of Sport chek.
I go in using the same type of opening. Except I use a pink woman's shoe asking how it looks. (I just held it up, didn't put it on haha) She is talking quiet and with not much charisma. HB7
R: laughs Looks good.
tm: How about on you? holds shoe to her feet Yeah that would look good.
R: Mhm. smiling
tm: So are you a runner?
R: Yeah.
tm: Cool, I am trying to get into running myself. Any tips?
R: (Long talk about running tips then warning about injuring yourself and needing a splint) I had that happen to me.
tm: Well I guess the running just couldn't handle you!
R: laughs
tm: We should go running sometime, you could help me. (I need to be more direct...) gets phone What's your number?
R: I can't.
tm: Aw, why not? (chump response...)
R: I have a boyfriend, he's over their. looks to men's section (wow... he wasn't even look over at us, I'm sure he could here us)
tm: Okay, thanks for the advice anyways. Bye!
R: Bye.
I wish she said she had a boyfriend earlier, I guess she really thought I was talking to her for advice only. Shoulda know from her timidness. A negative part about being indirect. Luckily the boyfriend did nothing at all, not even a look when I yelled sorry to him. (chump move)
4th (Last) Approach - The Bay (Main clothing store in mall)
At this point we are leaving the mall. I am very desperate to find a girl. My friend spots one and I walk towards her, but I see this HB7 who looks more my age and decide to go in for her instead. I have this empty bag with me, from the jacket I bought, that I am now wearing.
tm: Hi!
W: Hi, can I help you?
tm: Oh do you work here?
W: Yes. (dang...)
tm: Well I have this bag here, could you use it?
W: You want me to take it?
tm: Yes. Could you reuse it for something?
W: Sure.
tm: Okay cool, so you can put clothes in it.
W: Well it has printing not from this store on the outside. We would use it for (I forget what).
tm: turns bag inside-out There.
W: puzzled look We still can't use it.
tm: Well okay I guess you can still have it. I have an idea, how about we trade?
W: What?
tm: I give you this bag, and you give me your number.
W: laughs No sorry.
tm: I like a girl who plays hard to get.
W: smiles No sorry.
tm: Well okay, here's the bag. (I should've kept that bag! She doesn't deserve it :(.) Bye.
W: Thanks bye.
Ridiculousness I know. I was very desperate and didn't really care. Also at some point I asked her age, i don't know why. She said 19. I didn't have much comment.
As my friend and I were leaving he said that one didn't count. I tell him that I tried #closing. He obviously knows that it should count. So I yell out to the W as we are leaving.
tm: Hey! I asked for your # right?
W: laughing and smiling Yeah! Good job! (not sarcasm haha)
So afterwards ask him for change (He gets to keep $4). He says no and just lets me keep the $20. I say that defeats the purpose because if we do it again I will feel less pressure. He says well maybe he'll take the money next time...
Conclusion
That money game really pushed me. I will definitely be doing that again.I need to work on my direct approaches, or at least being more direct and assertive. I am getting more used to approaching and gaining confidence. I can hold eye contact easily now, but looking towards her lips is odd for me. I also need to use kino. I feel that most girls I approach are laughing often. I feel like maybe they don't take me seriously? I am 17 (turning 18 soon) so it is hard finding girls around my age. Almost all the HBs I approached today and other times are in their 20s so I am getting used to older women.
Other notes
Ever since yesterday, when I got my first close. I have been feeling sick, almost nervous or having butterflies. It's hard for me to eat. I guess I'm just not used to talking to HBs much. I am fine in the moment but afterwards i feel sick. I am still confident and what not though. My friends have always picked at me for trying to get girls through pick up and failing. I just yesterday I go my first close and today 2, but they are still the same. They are jealous probably, but it is getting on my nerves. (not affecting game, just getting me mad). I need to find a real wingman. Any one around Hamilton, ON?...
tl;dr Ridiculous/odd openings/jokes, 1st HB gave me # possibly thinking it was only for business reasons, 2nd HB gave me a possibly fake number, 3rd HB had a boyfriend, 4th HB was an employee. Improving, but have a long ways to go
