Find out if your roommate is cool with hookups happening in the room. If he is, come up with a system. Some of my friends had something pretty cool set up. They had a whiteboard on their door with a black marker. However, inside the room was a red marker that only they used. If there was any red on the board at all, it meant "do not disturb" for obvious reasons.

College student here. Make sure you stay on good terms with your roomate, or he will become an impenetrable cockblocking forcefield. My roomate plays full volume battlefield while I sleep, and eventually I got sick of it. So he hasn't had sex in the room in over a semester. Don't be a fuck.

Speaking as a current college student who has had a roommate and doesn't now: much less of a difference than you'd might think.

Talk to him/her early and let him know to expect this kind of call from time to time. After that, it's pretty easy, just give him a call when you anticipate taking someone home with you. Having a roommate will not stop you from having sex.

Do you mean literally sharing a bedroom, like in a dorm? If that's the case, then you would have to work out a system to let him know that you're bringing a girl home, or that you're currently at home in the bedroom with a girl.

If you have separate bedrooms, who gives a shit? As long as you discuss that a closed bedroom door means "Do Not Disturb" he won't be barging in on you. Everyone has a roommate in college. A girl isn't going to see your roommate and be like "OH MY GOD. SOMEONE KNOWS I'M GOING TO HAVE SEX. ABORT."

If you don't have game getting laid will be sparse. If you do you'll get laid. It's far more important for you to go out and get your skill-set up to snuff. Roomate = IRRELEVANT.

I was one of the only people that had my own room when I was in dorms... It was incredible and got me laid more than expected. Remember, random hook ups are awkward if you know your roommate is asleep, and sock on the doorknob doesn't work if you are coming back home at 3am.

Also girls would stay in my room when their roommate had a boyfriend over or they got in an argument with them, it can be a good refuge for them and more often than not ends in sex.

My advice is... If you can get your own room, do it!

Most people are usually good about it and try not to interfere but if you get a total shut in you just have to tell him to get the fuck out or set up the camera.

For the most part, I would say it doesn't have to prevent you from getting laid at all! I have been sharing a room with my roommate for a year now, and i had a previous roommate who shared another room with me in a different room of the same apartment the year before that. my roommate now has a boyfriend, and i have had a few friends with benefits situations over the year. basically she and i were very open from the beginning, and we both understand how important sex is to the other, so we just stay open about it and when the time comes just lock the door. I would say that you shouldn't worry about it, as long as you stay open and honest.

You can usually set up an understanding at the start of the year with your roommate. My roommate and I decided that we would give each other space but if I had to sleep, I was going to sleep in my bed regardless of what he was doing in his. It worked out pretty good.

I lived with an awesome room mate for about a year. We would hang out in different environments on different nights but would both work this plan.

One of you goes out on some night. Hit on girls, get numbers, etc. If you have one of the girls that won't leave her friend, invite both of them back and give your room mate a heads up.

By the time you get back to the apartment, roommate has the place cleaned up and is ready to meet whatever hot chick (hopefully) you bring for him.

TLDR: Get an awesome room mate and come up with a plan to reap the benefits.

I haven't done it, but surely that's inevitably going to fuck everything up, or at the least make everything a hassle.

If you can avoid it without much fallout, I definitely would, but in university residence in England sharing is out of the question, so I don't really know what your options are.
