The Approach:
I've been watching a lot of RSD stuff and have almost finished Neil Strauss's "The Game." At work there's this cute HB7 who works in another department. We've talked in passing and I've made some witty jokes and build some comfort and attraction (the first thing she actually said to me was 'you don't seem like the kind to smoke, but you look good doing it' while I was smoking a butt on break.)
So after a long day at work HB7 was walking to the punch clock as I was leaving. I was walking toward the exit with my old boss from another department as she was walking my direction. My first thought was to put my hand up and say, "stop' and start a quick conversation, give my self a time constraint, #close then head out. But as she got within earshot my current boss flanked me and started to show me some work related garbage I didn't really care about. So not wanting to fall out of state, I told my bosses (old and current) I had to go and pulled a U turn. I rounded the corner saw her texting at the punch clock and one of my bestfriends was reading his schedule. This is how the interaction went.
Me: Hey she looks up and makes eye contact, holding myself open to her What's your phone number?
HB7: surprised, yet excited Wait, what, why? without hesitation she starts rattling off her digits
Me: Hold on a minute let me get my phone out!
everyone laughs
I haven't done many approaches, but I wouldn't recommend just asking a girl for her number like this. I only did it because she only works one day a week and we always chat briefly so we know one another, I just had yet to get her number.
The Text Game:
The key component her was keeping it brief. I sent her my name, cause she forgot (I teased her about it when she asked as my attempt to be cocky funny) so here's the convo roughly:
Me: throwuhwey1 (: HB7: Your friend thinks you're adorable (: Me: I think you're adorable (: HB7: I'm flattered Me: (this is the part where you compliment me) HB7: You're adorable too (: Me: You're not to good at this getting hit on thing haha HB7: lol I'm not? Teach me Me: Lesson 1 tomorrow at 6 panera HB7: okay panera at 6 Me: See you there (;
I'm hoping the asking for a compliment may have come off needy, but at the time it was my attempt at trying to clarify the fact that I'm interested in her. In the past I always got friendzoned because I would never show interest early on. I'm moving out of the friendzone seddit.
The Day 2:
So I probably should have postponed this date because I was beat. The work day before was stressful and long, I slept on a couch that night and worked 6 hours prior to the date. So when we got there we hugged and she asked if it was my car with the inside light on (it was) so we went out so I could shut it off. So here is where I made a joke about the way this date was going already and she said something along the lines of "that's how you ask a girl on a date?" jokingly, to which my attempt at cocky funny started. My natural response was "you're here aren't you?" with a shit eating grin. (Another key point, I'm normally an upbeat person, and I'm always smiling and laughing to myself about some joke. Self amusement has helped me in a lot of areas of my life, but tonight I didn't have it. I was too tired.)
We ordered tea, I paid, and we started talking about school and basic getting-know-you things. For the first half of the date I had the energy to make jokes mostly situational stuff and she loved it. Between laughs she kept saying "you're so funny, I like it." Knowing I was going to crash soon I told her I was beat from the past two days, to which she seemed understanding.
While we started talking about one another I asked for her hand. Here's where I tried to demonstrate value. I did somewhat of a cold read, like Style does in his book. I said "I can tell something about your personality just by looking at your nails" so while demonstrating value I also initiated kino, she reciprocated. I told her I could tell she had a bubbly personality because she was wearing pink nail polished and she was intrigued. Then she asked what if she had worn red instead. I made intense eye contact and told her that would reflect passion. And after that her eyes lit up.
There was a brief moment after some fluffing where I probably could have K-Closed but I just didn't have the energy. She seemed really into the whole reading people thing so I proceeded to talk about how my friends and are really introspective people, but I'm also an extrovert. (I had to explain what those two terms meant, but she was still really interested in it.) Here's where I started to go wrong, I think. I started to pry a little bit and she called me out on it. I told her my mind works like and engineers and I'm on this vast quest for knowledge. I like to know things inside and out. Which is true. I told her my ex was really needy and I wasn't into that whole thing. She started qualifying herself saying that she was nothing like that. She also said she hates getting to know people over text. So I earned some brownie points. So after this somewhat awkward shut down, I tried to change the venue, asking if she wanted to go play pool down the road. Nope.
This is where the topic of work came up. We started talking about work a lot. And it ultimately lead to me analyzing managers and telling her what I thought about them. Due to being so tired, my thoughts had been so scattered, but I still managed to hold her interest. She liked my ideas on it, even though she knows these guys more personally than I do. At one point I had said I do what I want, because I want to do it. In regards to being happy. (For instance seeing a cute girl and talking to her because I wanted too) So she asked if she seemed like the type to do that. To which I said, "do you want to kiss me?" and she said no. I then said, "Then yes you're the type to do what you want haha."
At this point the panera was closing and we left. I made a comment about parting ways and she said she didn't like that saying for this occasion. Then suggested we do something like this again. I said sure, she suggested dinner. We hugged and I left. I'm probably going to ask her out to dinner sometime on Wednesday.
What I learned from this whole experience is that confidence is key. Even as a beginner I managed to get another date and a number close with pure confidence. Key points that worked for me were keeping texts short, maintain eye contact, make your intentions clear and just be confident in your own skin. (Also, in this case, a cold read worked). As a person I'm very outgoing, but I'm also very introspective so I showed that side of me. I feel like I talked way to much about myself and tried a little to hard to know about her. I also left out the fact that conversation didn't start flowing until about half way through the date. Overall this date went okay, and I'm stoked that she asked me for another one!
Any advice/criticism is accepted, don't hold back.
