I was at university and had just completed an assignment early. Was feeling pretty good and went to catch a bus home. It was night time but the campus bus stop is fairly well lit. See an HB8 waiting there. Originally I ignore her, but after a bus goes by and she doesn't it catch it I open by talking about the weather. We almost immediately get into a good conversation and she is showing a lot of IOI's; standing really close to me, laughing at what I say, fixing her hair/face, asking my name, asking what I study, asking where I'm from. Body language stuff is becoming second nature to me now - I have good posture, am relaxed, and look her in the face. I figure this ones in the bag. I actually feel a bit taken aback - her body distance is almost too close! Convo lasts about 2-3 minutes.

I figure her bus is probably gonna be here soon so I tell her we should get coffee sometime (should really stop saying that, don't like coffee that much)... and it starts getting a bit strange. She says she can't get coffee she has to catch the bus, and I tell her later in the week. She laughs and acts nervous and asks if I want to hear her accent again (I'd said it was interesting before). I said yeah, I like talking to you. She then tells me she's forgotten her number, but claims it's not an excuse. I offer her mine and she kind of dithers, so I drop it and we talk about other stuff. Her bus comes, she gets out of it, then immediately goes back into it. I lol and shake my head.

Positives:

  • Don't feel very nervous when approaching or asking out anymore.

  • Was able to ask someone out where others can overhear (someone came to the bus stop as I was doing it). Sort of cared but still did it.

  • Wasn't that bothered by the rejection

Negatives:

  • "We should get coffee sometime" is really lame. I figure I should've asked if she was at uni tomorrow and wanted to get lunch in the main lunch-eating area. A bit more casual and maybe a bit more appropriate for a nighttime bus stop 3 minute pickup attempt.

  • I clearly can't read IOIs :/
