I disagree. A lot of loud people state this as if it were fact. It's not fact. If you want to say that trying to date or flirt with coworkers is a bad idea if a person has no clue what they're doing or if they date in a way that frequently causes drama, then yeah, that person attempting to date will be shitting where they eat.

I've dated more than one person at the same time, at the same workplace without any workplace drama. If you establish discretion as the pattern early on and communicate clearly, it goes a long way.

Yes. There is. There's no guarantee that one can always pull it off, but here are some rules of thumb if you want to attempt it.

Despite what I've just said, keep in mind how important your job is to you. If it's REALLY important, then you won't want to take too many risks in the name of dating a co-worker and you might even want to just avoid it altogether.
Discretion. If you must blab about your dating exploits with co-workers, do so with friends who have no connections to your workplace. Tell any co-workers you date that you want to keep it out of the workplace. Back this up by making sure you don't have any PDAs going on at work.
If you're the kind of person who can't ever talk to their exes because you end up bitter enemies after it's all over, then dating co-workers is NOT for you. If you are usually friends with exes, then you can probably pull it off.
Don't screw over a co-worker. You should be trying to communicate to them clearly every step of the way. If you have lost your interest for them, end it (kindly), don't drag it out.
Don't parade future people you date in front of a co-worker you used to date, especially soon after you break things off.
It's easier if you have more than one circle of friends. It's more difficult when all your friends are from work. It's easier if you have more than one circle of friends.

It's easy. I was a lifeguard and a waiter at a high end restaurant before I graduated and I ran through those girls lol. Easiest way to do it without being awkward is keep it VERY casual at work. No excessive touching, no awkward comments...treat her like a kid sister. Fist bump, genuinely compliment her. Don't talk about girls or how much you like her.

Then get her out at a casual group event (drinks, bowling, w/e) and isolate her. Get a little more touchy feely. Then just treat it normally from there.

But ALWAYS remain casual at work. You don't want to lose your job over something stupid like a girl ;)
