So I'm in a new town and it's not very big (under 100k people). I'm done with school so all I have is my workplace (which is mostly filled with STEM majors) and.. bars.

The problem with living in a small town is that there isn't much happening. There aren't that many public events. And the bars/clubs are not exactly playing interesting music (just top 40 or worse - country). Meanwhile, in a bigger city, it was so much easier to tell myself 'this awesome act is gonna be at this bar/club - I don't even care if I pick up girls there; it will be awesome anyway!!'. Anyway, even if the bars here kind of suck, I've found a few that are tolerable, so I've told myself that I will go out at least once a week to a bar or something, because I'm bored as fuck.

But even in a bigger city, I went to a cool club that had great EDM playing (electro/prog house). I was having such a blast and I was chatting up a bunch of people. I got to dance with this really cute girl that hadn't been turned into a 'club girl' yet. She was really into me, but I kind of failed to get approval of her friend - did a bit of a faux pas - and the rest is history. Now, I realize that 1 failed close is no big deal, even if it had a lot of potential. But if I couldn't handle a girl's possibly cock-blocking friend in an awesome club where there was so much energy, I'm not sure how well I can do in a smaller town bar, where the defenses of a group of girls will be even higher, IMO.

Anyway, I don't much mind going out once a week completely solo, but I wanted the perspective of someone who might be doing this a lot.
