Honestly, the trick is to not over-think it. If you have interest in a girl then just talk to her. Send her a message and talk about something you guys have in common and build rapport with her. Then just invite her to come do something with you. Doesn't need to be a huge date, just tell her to come grab smoothies with you or get sushi or whatever. The trick is to just do it. Be straightforward and confident in yourself. Assume that she already wants to come hang out with you and it's just a matter of making it happen. The rest is up to you. Good luck man!

Initiate conversation or initiate hooking up? If the former then just break the ice maybe with something they posted about on a status, rather than in the comments. If she replies and gets a steady line of communication going and you can tell she's feeling comfortable talking to you, simply ask her out.
