Going on a date with a girl who has very basic English. Pointers?

Keep the conversation simple and expect to have to repeat yourself a lot. I mean a LOT. You'll either find it very cute or very, VERY irritating. I hope for your sake it's the former.

It would probably be better to go on a date where you are both doing something so that a lack of conversation isn't too awkward. I like dancing or skating or something like that for these situations.

Don't forget to teach her things. She's here to learn already and no doubt she'll love to learn stuff from the hot guy she just met. If she says something wrong, tease her a little about it, make it into a game and then correct her nicely. If you can turn teaching her into a fun little thing you do together it will go great.

90% of conversation is nonverbal, the language barrier should only be a minor impediment. i was in a similar situation about 2 months ago. i just made her laugh and showed her a good time in a place that was new-to-her. shes been in the country two days, shouldnt be too hard.

i'm german albeit fluent in english, however i have/had troubles when people talk too fast, or when they use complicated sentence structures (although that's not too big of a problem in english IMO), or with weird pronounciations. That being said, don't keep it too simple, or she will feel like you think she's an idiot or something.

remember that figures of speech and sayings are different from language to language, but i always deemed it interesting (for example, i always thought it's hilarious that "going bananas" means going insane).

i would think you have a good chance getting a fun conversation going when you casually bring up stuff like that and explain it to her. Also, colloquialisms, i imagine the girl did learn english at school, but that still differs from how people actually talk in daily life.

also, /u/state_of_non_return is definitely right about the nonverbal part. if she doesn't understand you, use your hands, your face, heck even you goddamn feet. should ligthen the atmosphere as well. maybe make a joke about using sign language (german "Gebärdensprache").
