One of the few perks of smoking.
[–]kazyfake 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Well, there are few, really.

As a smoker, I agree.
I am trying to quit though. I recently hung up my beer glass (sober 10 days), and my plans are to stop smoking entirely by the end of the month. One addiction at a time :/

A very good decision! Stay strong, you can do this. Good job on the progress so far!
I can't smoke cause I got a bad lung and coughing constantly but I also stopped drinking. Not entirely, I have one beer here and there, but I realized there is no fun in drinking too much. And I discovered I FUCKING LOVE juice! I drink that shit now all the time at bars!

Thanks!
I found /r/stopdrinking and that's helped to read other stories of success and how people deal with cravings and what not. I never considered myself an alcoholic but recently it occurred to me that I couldn't remember the last time I went to sleep sober so it was time for a change. I've already lost a few pounds and feel so much better. Next step is to cut out smoking completely, it's just a go-to for me to deal with stress at work, not to mention smoking after a good meal or sex is utter bliss (I know this confuses my non-smoking friends). I know it's for the better though.

Check out /r/electronic_cigarette! Vaping is better than smoking, its a neat hobby, and a great conversation starter.

It's tremendously social. We are slowly killing ourselves together isn't that romantic(?)

This one is great!

I'm removing this because we get too many "What are some good ways to...?" posts, which in themselves add zero value; it's just asking for value from others.
Try some responses of your own, then come back and post about what worked and what didn't.
[–]fallschirmjaeger 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
The replies in the comments surely add value?
[–]bl1y 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
With these types of posts the comments rarely add value. Much of the time it's people keyboard jockeying and posting lines they've never used, or used only once or twice.
It turns into people posting what they think will get chuckles from seddit, and not what they've found actually works in the field.

"Sure. That'll be 1 dollar" I typically say this when holding a door for someone. It always gets a playful response. In your example their response should help you gauge if it's an IOI or they're just needing fire.
[–]nittutt -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
It's rarely an IOI and should not be interpreted as such.
Some things should be left alone, asking for a light is one.
[–]fallschirmjaeger 9 points10 points11 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
If I need a light, I always look for a girl I'm interested in and ask her for it. Sure I could ask my friend next to me, but where's the fun in that? It's a great and very casual way to cold approach. So I figure when a girl detaches herself from her group, comes up to you and asks for a light, it's a definite IOI.
[–]MtStrom 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Not a definite. It might be an IOI, but chances are she really just needs a light so I wouldn't count on that.
[–]fallschirmjaeger 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It should be pretty obvious in the situation whether she just really needs a light or has something of an agenda.
[–]MtStrom 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sure, I just thought "definite" was a bit extreme.
[–]nittutt -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree with the way you present it, and i agree that myself i have used it to my advantage. But, if we were to use the premise of "Got a light" as an IOI girls would ultimately be infuriated by guys always thinking they hit on us.
I'm just saying, rather than acting on baseline IOI's from girls, rather go out and create them.
Being the one that's reacting isn't all that great, and playing a passive game of pickup is just not as rewarding as going out hitting the big leagues.
Where i live, "gaming" has become much more popular and i guess i just want to jump away from the "passive".

We shouldn't be shooting down where OP wants to give it a shot! We should be helping him out, regardless.
