Sounds like an aversion to social awkwardness. You assume you'll be awkward, so you awkwardly avoid the situation and then recognize that awkwardness to reinforce that mindset.

Sometimes you need to set yourself into a flirty groove. Just force yourself to walk up to a girl and say something outlandish and direct. I'm more about the direct having a conversation/connection style, but my first few warmup approaches are canned. I'll walk up to a girl and just say, "I love your (random clothing article), is it made out of girlfriend material?" ... And once my mind is there, I'm like a kid running around a candy store.

Go out, on your own, to a random cafe, shop, park where nobody knows you. Being anonymous will help you to get the courage you need. Force yourself to do small steps. At first- force yourself to talk about the weather to that hot waitress, girl in the park, whoever. Make sure she's hot and remember- you're anonymous, it doesn't matter if you fuck up... which you will, trust me. Another small step- ask her a personal question- how long is she at the current job, what's her plan for the day. The next small step- tell her that she's cute and that you want to invite her for a coffee. That simple. Just remember- one small step at a time, take your time, force yourself to talk to her and don't be result oriented. You will be rejected, no phone numbers will be given. Be process oriented. The important thing is that you tried, that you forced yourself out there and because of that- its gonna get easier with every time you try. Good luck and remember- we've all been there ;-)

i have the exact same problem. i went out the weekend, had a few look exchanges with a girl. pussied out. some other guy approached and got her number. couldve been me. there's also this girl at my work cant even work up the courage to introduce myself but i will force myself to do it next week.

"I could care less about rejection" Then what is holding you back from just going up to a girl?

A recent post on another forum site said how good-looking guys are at a disadvantage with women because there is an expectation for them to get results with women.

The best advice I could give you is...

Go up to girls and fail on purpose. Literally act stupid and blow yourself out of the water. This will tell your mind that it is okay to be rejected because I really think that is the issue.
Explore within yourself why you do hesitate to talk to women.
