i've liked this guy for years and i couldn't tell him myself, so my friend did it for me(i know, stupid move). instead of saying that actually liked him, my friend told him i have a "thing" for him. when i went to talk to the guy of interest (i'll call him X), i said "so i heard you talked to so and so..." and X said "haha he was just kidding" and I said that he actually wasn't. Then he kind of beat around the bush a little bit and i was like "Awkwardddd" he said it wasn't awkward but he had to go to class so he'd message me later, and that he did (he usually doesn't message me). This is kind of an odd situation because even though we are childhood friends, we never reall got to be close friends. However, I've always felt this special 'spark' with him and I don't know if he feels it too, but I can't let go of it. When we talked, he didn't bring up my liking him or anything. However he always teases me and some of the stuff he says makes me think he likes me too, because he is not the type of guy to lead a girl on just for fun. For example, joking about just the two of us hanging out ";)"

I usually message him first and neither of us approach each other to talk in real life. I have no problem talking with guys, but with him I just get so nervous. So unless we're sitting right across from each other I just can't talk to him. I don't know why.. I have so much to say but I think I'm scared to come off as clingy or needy. This is also why I don't text him a lot.. I know if I don't talk to him then we'll never be good friends, but he's definitely not the texting type. Whenever we plan group outings, he doesn't really go out of his way to reply to me. But he sometimes makes jokes about "us" and its very frustrating because I don't know if he's just seeing how I react... he doens't do this with anyone else.

I feel if a guy likes a girl and knows that she likes him too, he'd most likely ask her out. However, we are both passive people. Could it be that he didn't think i was serious since I didn't directly say i liked him myself, and that my friend said i had a "thing" for him, making it seem very superficial? Because I'm not infatuated with him, I've liked him for a very very long time.

Should I bring this up and talk to him about it? We can't talk in person because we're in different cities atm. I am just dying for some closure.
