Besides asking more experienced people, you have to experiment. If you try something and it seems to worsen your attempts like five times in a row, then change it. If you try something and it seems to improve your next five approaches, keep doing it.

One example is that I used to walk up to women too quickly and scare them. That was because I was nervous, and since I'm a fairly tall and solidly built guy, it can alarm them. So, I learned to walk up at a relaxed and self-assured pace and it works out better.

The best way is to get rejected. Because in the rejection, there is usually information about why you were rejected.

She might say "you're not my type". That means looks.

She might say "sorry I have a boyfriend". That usually means poor target selection.

She might not answer at all, run away, seem scared. That means you approached too directly and scared her.

She might get angry. That means you were too direct.
