How do you get things rolling while waiting outside for class to start?

If you're in college, a go-to opener is asking what their major is. Everybody asks everybody. That can lead into what they want to be, why they want to be that, then what they like to do in their spare time besides that.

Might not be the most seductive thing out there, but it's an easy way to start a conversation. "What class are you waiting for? Philosophy? That's cool, are you a Philosophy major?" etc etc

I'd just ask her what her name is. That's what I always do. It doesn't have to be seductive right away. Just get to know her!

There's quite a bit of discussion about whether or not asking what her major is is a good opener. Honestly, I believe the opener can be complete shit as long as you have a good follow-up, and the nice thing about this question is that it implies that she should return the question.

For instance:

Hi, my name's Psilocybin. What's yours? [name] oh, like my dog —

And then, lightning fast before she realizes what you said:

— so what's your major?

She'll be a little flustered, but will answer the question. As long as you have the right body language & smile, it'll be fine. Always best to keep 'em on their toes.

"Oh, my major is psychology." "neat."

contemplate it. Not because you care, but because this will imply to her that she is to ask what your major is. You might want to say what your actual major is. Honesty is the best way forward, right? WRONG.

"What's your major?" — Oh, I'm majoring in ________.

STOP! If you tell her you're majoring in psych, or international law, or EE, or CS, or whatever it is, you're going to be really boring. Instead, tell her you're majoring in something crazy like

defense against the dark arts
mind reading
killer whale watching
lion taming
superhero powers
koala studies
dark magic

Best said with a semi-straight face, these majors will PROVE that you are interesting. At this point, with a quick/subtle dig, quick sentences, a hilarious and interesting "major," you're pretty much set.

You don't even have to persist that that's your major.

"really??", or "No way."

she says. You reply

Yeah I'm totally kidding. But [koalas], right?!

These majors all have places to move the conversation, and you could even drop the major subject at this point. But the point is, you've established a fast and fun conversation that'll keep her on her toes and quite interested.

With the right blend of body language, tone of voice, and touch/contact, this is literally all you need to get her drawn in.

"GAHHH not this class again!"

Its stupid but its going to get a response.

Then you can respond to just about anything she says with something like "Teacher is boring, I think I would learn more if I just packed up and went on an adventure!"

and then you can talk about possible adventures and then you can eventually invite her on one.

I personally would tell her to take notes so she can teach you the lecture over coffee, and then promptly get up and leave. But that might affect your grades i guess.

or you can ask her what her major is that works too. You'll quickly find out if she has any passion, too.
