It’s often viewed as rude or even cruel to emotionally connect with someone, escalate to sex and then inform them you aren’t interested in a monogamous relationship at the moment, through either your behavior or by explicitly stating it. Fair enough. But there’s a problem: How does one overtly communicate that you’re interested in getting to know a person, connecting with them emotionally, getting physical and having sex, but not committing to a serious monogamous relationship with anyone?

Of course you can always just say something like “I’m not looking for anything serious.” or some other cliché along those lines, but I feel like no matter who you are that kills a lot of your prospects right off the bat before they even have a chance to decide if they’re okay with that (i.e. getting to know you). So the real question here is this — Is there any way to reliably establish that you’re genuinely interested in emotionally and physically connecting with someone, but not interested in committing to a serious relationship with anyone at the moment, without just losing most of your potential prospects outright? Our culture’s ingrained into women’s minds the concept that emotional/physical connection is followed by singular commitment from a young age, so I’m not sure how likely this is to not simply kill your chances with most women.
