First dates should be brief in my opinion. A quick drink , coffee or a lunch date is good for testing the waters.

yes it does. ideally, it will not be a coffee date because you know each other. it makes no sense if you know the effect of the first short date as suggested elsewhere. you could have skipped all together to the campus activity or local concert. at this moment you use this opportunuty to suggest something to do this weekend or something such as "hey I saw this on a school paper do you wanna go and check out together?"

I would recommend an activity like pool, bowling or such. But if you feel confident in keeping the word play going for 2 hours, go for the coffee. Otherwise do something fun.

Depends, for a first date maybe 1-2 hours. If its going badly its usually over within 1 hour. If its going well it can stretch longer than 2 hours.

Most of my dates have lasted 3-5 hours. If it's fun and you're both enjoying it, then you just hang out and enjoy it. If not someone normally makes an excuse to bounce.
2 hours is all good. If you're busy/have to get home then you have other shit to do

total date should be 2 hours, this includes pulling/fucking
just the coffee should be 35-45 minutes
