After you cross paths, turn around and go back to her. Check your phone as if something came up if it makes you feel better.

Why does that seem weird?

You either meet her in the center of the street or on either of the two sides. You can try to motion at her before she crosses, but that has potential to be more awkward, and I assume you don't want to run across to her side of the street while the light is still red.

You could use something like "I did not cross the street just to meet you" sort of thing I guess.
