First, don't get a girl because you hate being lonely. That is needy and not attractive.

Invest in yourself and when you are happy with what you are doing getting a girlfriend will be a really good experience.

It is possible to get a girlfriend too when you are feeling lonely, but that may open the door for many problems down the road.

First problem - you need to be comfortable with being lonely because if you can't be happy by yourself, you cannot be happy with another person. Don't look to women to give you happiness. This will require you to have hobbies and interests that "YOU" enjoy doing for your own enjoyment.

Once you establish that (could take years) then actively pursue women for a relationship.

pal, I met my first (now ex) girlfriend of ~2 years because she sold me a pair of hockey skates in some sports store. Admittedly, at the time I was hoping to give a relationship a try, but I was asking out every cute girl I bumped into, almost just for the sake of putting myself out there. Given this, I would say you shouldn't exactly go looking for a girlfriend, but you should look for girls whose company you enjoy (ie they are a gamer or they match you in some other way). From there, you can determine whether things can progress to bf/gf.
As for your living situation, not knowing anyone can be a good thing - it will force you to go out and meet people. For me, I like athletes, so I participate in many coed drop in and full time sports games and meet people like that. For you, you like gamers; hang out in places where you might meet others with the same interests.
