Well your flirting should be your segway really. Your intention should be clear from the beginning of the interaction. It's all about the vibe you are giving off. If you're doing that all fine then just hand her your phone and ask her for the digits. As for your second question, just take her number for what it is. It's not a concrete confirmation that anything will happen but it's a start. Some girls give out numbers just to guys they only find attractive, some girls give out numbers to most guys who ask. That's because it's not that big a deal. She doesn't NEED to text back or call you so what does it matter? So yeah I would suggest you stop sweating the small stuff.

Just ask her what she's doing next week, and then tell her to give you her number and you'll text her if you go to "X".

If she tries to beat around the bush for her number then just try to end the convo and move on.

I can't think of anybody who doesn't want to make more friends.

If asking for a number feels too awkward then ask her for her facebook or something, or snapchat, whatever floats your boat.

I'm assuming you're talking about talking to girls normally during the day, not at a party or something.

I always try to be the one to end the conversation and walk away. Most guys don't do that so it immediately makes you stand out and it takes away the "is this the right time" problem.

I also usually have some on-going story/project to go with that, something from work or just random stuff from the interwebs. The story itself doesn't matter that much, it's just how you say it to create some suspense and anticipation. That gives me the power to close.

I just say something simple like "Hey I gotta go, do you wanna give me your number and I'll tell you all about xyz some other time."

OR

If you have a really good story and she's really interested you can go "I'll trade your phone number for the rest of the story over a coffee". Bit more cocky but works.

It also gives you something to latch onto the next time you interact.

You can also do the "I don't normally do this" routine. It'll work fine for you even if you're slightly uncomfortable. It'll come across as really good acting as long as you're not foaming out of your mouth.

Then there's always the magic trick thing where you ask for her phone as part of the trick and then shove your number in it or text yourself. The success rate on that one varies, mostly depending on what you say after she gives you the wtf look.

Like someone above said day game is just practice. Just experiment and have fun with girls that just seem average to you and keep the good stuff for the jaw droppers.

PS: I never offer my number. I think it's kinda weak.

At any point you can say "You seem cool, you can give me your phone number and we'll hang out sometime... if you're a good girl".
It's always on until she tells you otherwise.
