I took a 6 week class with an Improvisation group which built on several topics over six weeks. I want to discuss some of these topics and show how they could relate to seduction. I initially decided to take this class based off my plans to do stand-up comedy. I thought these classes would build on my ‘off the fly’ technique where I could just talk in the moment without having a planned set in mind. The most difficult part of the class was being able to just let your creative side take over while not caring of how it turned out.

Anyways, here are some things I learned that could maybe motivate you to take some of these classes.

  • The first lesson and one of the most important lessons was just letting your subconscious take care of everything. We did several exercises where we just let our mind relax and ‘let it flow’. For example: We played a game where we set ourselves in a circle and each one would count themselves up to 25 going clockwise(one person would count as one, the person to their left would be two, etc… ). There were rules attached to this, so if someone was 7,10,14,20,21, there would be a different hand signal you make. So people 1-6,8-9, 11-13,etc… they would put their hand up in the air. 10,20 would point at someone else which would alter the order. Anyways the game itself is not important, but the exercise mainly was to not think about what number or hand signal you had to represent but just try to let your subconscious to the work. We all try to consciously think of the solution, and couple this with the fear of failure – we put ourselves in a mental block. Just call out a number, make a signal based off instinct and go for it. If you fuck up, no worries the game will continue. Now relating this to seduction… I guarantee if you just go off your instinct instead of trying to think of the proper line to say and worry about the environment, you’re going to fuck with your own mind. GO OFF YOUR INSTINCT, say something and go with it.

  • The second lesson is very important to the art of conversation. It is crucial to be in the moment of the situation so can engage yourself with the person you’re speaking to. The rule in improv is to Never say no. If someone asks you if you enjoy looking at elephants in tutus and you reply with “no that’s stupid”. It really hinders the conversation and stops whatever momentum you have. If you don’t think it’s a really strong topic, try to accept what the person says and try to improve it. You can improve it by saying, “what about ninja’s in tutus? It would be a lot funnier to see them run around with pink tutus and trying to be stealth, don’t you think?” This is pretty basic technique of conversation and really builds rapport with the person. It’s very important to talk about your passions, but it’s golden if you can get them to relate to your passions. Seduction calls this “Agree and amplify” which I’m sure you all understand. One exercise they taught us was to try and repeat the person’s question/response in your head before giving your response. It definitely helps to keep the idea flowing and that pause can really help the pace of conversation (think of any interview with Obama).

  • The third lesson is to show a type of emotion whenever in a scene. I would take this lesson very lightly because it’s not always warranted to show your emotions in every instance. An exercise we did to practice our emotions was having a random person give a random line to you, and you react completely extreme to their statement/question and the emotion had to be completely irrelevant to their statement/question. Once you set off an emotion, you can get a context for the conversation and go from there. Again, I’m not sure if this really relates to seduction, but I also think it’s important not to just be bland and pretend to be mysterious. Emotion is good, when warranted.

So those are some of the lessons I learnt from Improv classes, hopefully you guys take a class or two. I found it really helpful with general conversation and confidence problems and I will definitely be taking a class again in the future. Also, if you are worries that you will look like a fool, don’t. It’s a very comfortable place and you may even meet some cuties ;)

I apologize if some of the stuff I wrote is unclear, I’m pretty awful at writing so reply if you have any comments/suggestions/questions!
