You could try Eckhart Tolle and Alan Watts as they're good interpreters of Eastern Philosophy for a western audience.

It's not new-age bullshit btw, with psychic powers and all that nonsense..

It's about mental discipline, recognizing what conciousness is and what's going on inside your own head, focusing on the present moment, being free from outcomes, centering yourself. It also doesn't require any kind of supernatural belief system or anything like that, so don't worry you can stay euphoric.

It can get very existential and esoteric, but I've been reading about it and it is also gives you very useful and applicable mental attitudes that are definitely worth having.

I've never heard this, but if you are looking for some roots "The Red Queen" by Matt Ridley seems to be a building block for our generation of seduction logic.

Read about stoics, for example Marcus Aurelius, Seneca. Also, I'm not sure how much he has influenced inner game per se, but Robert Anton Wilson is one of the author that I often turn back to for guidance.

So, "The Red Queen" is a great book, but more for the material behind why the routines work.

If you're looking for something about the inner game in terms of mindstate, Style recommends "Mastering the Hidden-Self"

I know, I know, sounds super new-age. However, it's actually a basic primer on huna philosophy that worked wonders for me and several of the friends I subsequently lent the book to.

Otherwise, I think the only honest answer is Nietzsche or perhaps Camus
