Teasing isn't the same as putting her down. It's a way to show your wit and to stand out in her mind.

Giving someone a hard time is necessarily a bad experience. done correctly it's a fun game. Think about hanging out with your friends, you give each other shit in almost the same way you would tease her.

It stands out in her mind for a few reasons.

She sees your humor side.
She has a positive experience.
You demonstrate that you aren't the typical supplicating beta that runs into 90% of the time.

Do what is natural to you. If she doesn't enjoy it because you cross the line, then apologize when necessary. If she just doesn't like your humor, then on to the next one.

As for an answer, your asking a pretty complicated question. Teasing isn't a must, but getting the girl to qualify for you is. To get a girl to qualify for you without even giving her the opportunity is pretty tough. Her frame of mind upon seeing you would have to be, "I want to fuck this guy so bad, I have to go talk to him."

Unless your famous or just the coolest motherfucker ever, this isn't going to happen. If you can figure out a way to make women qualify themselves without teasing, go for it man, it is going to be tough though.

The only thing I could see maybe working would be telling a girl point blank "I had to come and talk to you, I have had you as an idea in my head forever as the perfect girl for me and I must know if your are really her and have the personality as well." Or something along those lines... This might work a few times, but you will probably get blown out a ton with it as well so your really better off just teasing.

There's a lot of things that bother me about this question, but in short: yes, teasing is a basic, essential part of communication, and especially flirting. If you even have to ask, you need to go out and get some experience- try it your way and see what happens, and change it up if it's not working out.

Don't think of it as "convincing a girl to like you." That's what we do in grade school and high school. Assume the girl already likes you, assume you're the coolest mofo that ever lived, and now imagine how you would approach the situation. If anything, she should be convincing you to like her.
