I've learned that with girls what you say doesn't even really matter. Its all about body language. Girls are super good at reading body language. So when you see a girl you like turn to face her head on, have open and confident body language, check her out, make eye contact for a couple seconds, then look over her head. The eye contact is the most important part. You have to maintain that eye contact while also seeming calm and relax. Girls instinctively know what you're thinking and it makes them sploosh.

Watch her reaction. If she seems interested make eye contact again, say hi, smile, make a small joke and go from there

if she likes you she'll open up really fast and start talking a lot.
