So as far as I know (and use) the idea of intent is to show that; you are a man, you have a penis and you're not afraid to use it. Intent saves you from being friend-zoned and also keeps options open for hooking up and dating. Also, you should show intent early-ish in the interaction.

I have been trying to fine-tune my intent lately. It hasn't been going to well. I think my intent is too sexual and has scared off a girl or two. However, my hang up is that my intent is to meet women and hook up, but not get into a relationship right now. (just got out of a ltr).
