I think trying to apply "rules" like this as a way to predict what will happen with a specific person is problematic, and really a giant circle jerk.

People stay in relationships they shoulnd't, and they leave relationships they should stay in.

People are extremely complex, and trying to say you can predict what will happen because one person gets more attractive is foolish.

The basic hypothesis sounds okay, but I'd add confidence and/or desirability to it. In fact, I'd probably throw out anything about wealth and anything about physical attractiveness as is.

Confidence and your general vibe is gonna override a lot of that shit (sometimes, all of it). If that's even possible once (like for me, I have no job, no car, I don't look great, etc.), then it's an exception to their "rule."

All of these studies are pretty questionable, because you're basically forcing people to interact within the scope of the study. Then asking them random questions about it.

Like I said though, the general hypothesis seems fine, but I think it's being looked at the wrong way. If you're attractive, of course you have a chance with more attractive girls. If you're not very confident though, then your chances go way down -- assuming you had the confidence to even approach in the first place (these studies don't measure anything like that, since they're already forcing the "subjects" to interact with each other in a controlled environment).

Essentially -- if you're an ugly guy, you need to make up for it by having some confidence. If you're a hot guy, that's a bonus, but you still need to back it up. I think the shit about money and "status" is bogus -- they'd need to put an actual definition on "status," and I doubt they'd be able to. It's a controlled experiment relying on certain premises, so shit's gonna be a bit off.

I'm a psychology major and might be able to shed some light on this. According to a social psychology course I took last term, the theory is sound, but not portrayed very well in the article. The idea is basically that people tend to settle down with those of similar attractiveness. It doesn't necessarily pertain to game, it has more to do with marriage or long term commitment. The theory also is strictly based on physical appearance, and is far from 100% accurate. No theory on behavior is perfect because the sheer number of variables is too high.
