I’m almost thirty, got divorced last year after a long relationship, have been single since.

I recently worked as a supervisor on an intensive 2 month project. A co-worker caught my attention. We had a good professional relationship and I felt a personal click. We cracked jokes, talked to each other easily and texted regularly. Mostly about work, but it also got more personal. She also had a difficult break-up after a long-term relationship and has been single since.

A few weeks after the job finished, I texted her to say I enjoyed meeting her. She immediately responded telling me she felt the same way. I then proposed to meet up to talk and look at some of the results of the project together. She answered that she would like that and would look at her calendar to set a date. However, after this, she stopped texting me for two weeks. I regretted that I didn’t set a time and place myself and used the work thing as a pretense to meet up, instead of proposing to do something fun or relaxing together. But the ghosting made me decide she was simply not interested.

A week ago, she suddenly started texting me again. Basic stuff: "Hey, how are you doing?". Me: "I'm good, how are you?". She, again, didn’t answer for four days. Yesterday, she again sent me some texts, to which I haven't replied. There was a party planned after the project, which was canceled. She told me she thought that was a shame and asked me again how I’m feeling after the project. I’m thinking about saying that I also found it a shame the party was canceled, because I was looking forward to seeing her again. I figure this might make it clear I'm interested.

The long intervals between her texts seem to be a bad sign and I am a bit anxious to to make a good professional relationship awkward by making clear I am romantically interested. On the other hand, I would probably regret it if I didn’t at least try to test the waters… Any advice?
