Hey guys,
First-time poster here, but I feel as though I have some good advice for those guys out there who were in my position just a couple of weeks ago.
Just for a little context here, I am a college senior (21M) and somewhat attractive with an athletic build. I am pretty extroverted and love meeting new people but always found it hard to initiate a conversation with women my age. If I was introduced to a girl who shared a mutual friend, it was a piece of cake and we would have stuff to talk about. Other than that, I really struggled.
Last summer, my buddy told me to read, "The Game" by Neil Strauss. As many people may know, this is the "guide to get laid". Where it does have some good pointers, I never really thought it would ever really work. Flash forward to this past weekend and I did make a very interesting realization from what I learned in the book.
It was Halloween night at a college bar and since it will be likely my last time going out in a Halloween costume at college, I wanted to go full send and have a great time. I dressed up as David Lee Roth from Van Halen and did not hold back on the details. I'm talking full blonde 80s rock wig, eye-liner, multi-colored tight cheetah-print pants, fishnet/leather top, etc. I went ALL out for this costume. In "The Game", one of the lessons was that you have to be like a peacock and stand out in the crowd. I always thought this was just a stupid thing and I would dress up like an idiot and be made fun of. This was not the case whatsoever. The bar was packed with people in Halloween costumes, but the men were not nearly as into it as the girls were. With the exception of maybe 2 other guys, I was the only one who really had dressed up. This is where I started seeing insane success.
Because of my wild outfit, I started getting looks from girls who were 9s and 10s. And not the "Jesus what on Earth is that guy wearing??", but the look of "Damn he is really pulling that costume off". Immediately, my confidence soared and it was because of the "peacocking" ideology. I stood out from the crowd and girls were interested in it. Within the four hours I was there, I had gathered 6 snapchats and an additional 5 numbers from interactions I had with girls. Each one lasted between 2-6 minutes, but it seemed as though THEY wanted to talk to ME and learn about ME.
Of course, this was Halloween and I do not think I would ever show up to a bar on a random night dressed as David Lee Roth ever again. But it got me thinking; maybe this whole "peacocking" thing is just all about the feeling of confidence and portraying yourself the right way? If anyone wants to further chat about this kind of stuff, PM me; I really enjoy talking about this stuff!
