I just gave up on asking numbers for a while. Same problem, even if I am direct and come up with a place and time to meetup.

The only thing left to try is to set up the date BEFORE asking their number. You have to plant the idea in their head, that they came up with the idea to give their number.

This is what I will try with the next girl I am interested in. For example: "I really think we should do x sometime", "I want to see you again so let's do x". With x being something she mentioned like doing while you were talking. Maybe bowling. Or even just drinks.

Then she might answer with "yeah, you're right!".

Reply with: "Cool, so how do you propose we will set that up?" or something. And then hope she will say "you can have my #?".

I'm a noob so I don't know if I'm going in the right direction, C&C appreciated.

I kinda hate texting because it's always GAME OVER as soon as I get their number somehow. Even if they showed interest in me. I am someone who rather meets up in person. Coming up with questions or whatever to talk about sucks, it almost always have to come from my side. No questions from their side. Even if I try to be funny. Sometimes I am sarcastic and they just don't get it. And no, it's not super weird shit I say.

Tinder is the worst. They loved my openers and sometimes I would hear "wow you are the funniest guy I've met on Tinder!". Try to set something up, get number and then they back the fuck off somehow. Also it's like I have been talking to the same girl in different bodies.

this is how i've started thinking about it: she's got about a billion other guys texting her that basic shit. hey how was spring break? if she's already into you then this might pass but if you're trying to get a foot in the metaphorical door, then this is a soft, pathetic attempt. You have to find some sort of way to create value and/or pull her into wanting to talk to you. try to be funny, creative, outlandish, bold, and original. running with your spring break example, I might change your text into something like, "so i'm going to guess you're either sun burnt to a crisp, insanely hungover on bahama mamas, or stuck in some foreign jail. will they even allow me to post bail for you?"

that was just something spit balled. you can go in a million different directions. the key takeaway is how this message is a lot more engaging then the very grey "hey whats up" text. as far as not meeting up, you could sort of combine this situation. "hey, i know spring break is probably one big blur i'd love to hear about it over drinks if you're still in the fun mood."
