You should only do romantic gestures when you're in a relationship and she has already invested in you. If you do romantic gestures in the beginning in hopes that'll win her over or she'll be wooed by them then you will be disappointed. More often then not she'll just think you're creepy because in reality there is no reason to invest that highly in a person who you have just met or barely know. And if you do something like this to a girl who you are friends with then it most likely won't work even if you know her well.

The romantic gestures are not BAD. But there is a better time and place for them and that's when you are already in a relationship with them. You usually want to stay casual, fun, and light hearted in the beginning when you first start getting to know them.

Being way too romantic in the beginning can come off as needy or approval seeking if you're trying to sweep them off their feet before you guys really get to know each other. Save the flowers, the chocolates, the expensive dinners, and all that other stuff for when you guys actually have a relationship.

There's nothing wrong with romance. Making other people feel good is a great thing to do, and it's something I try to do regularly. The problem comes when you do it as a means of sucking up to someone, or with the expectation of some kind of reward. That's when you cross over into the gamma male shithead realm.
