My Friend I'm going to give it to you straight, you haven't even tried yet.
Imagine this in your mind for a second: there are two guys both interested in one girl. Guy A is friendly, but a little shy. He's had a crush on this girl for a good amount of time, but thinks he will ask when the moment "feels right". He rationalizes in his mind why he hasn't asked her out yet because he's understandably nervous. Maybe one day he'll ask. Guy B is also friendly, but comfortable with himself, and not worried what others think. He knows his value that he brings to the table, and even if he asks her out on a date and gets told no at least he won't have to wonder what if.
I want you to think of an actor or character you find charismatic and pretend to be them next time you see this girl. Go up and confidently (not cocky) ask her if she'd like to grab a drink or food sometime. Don't sit and wonder what if.

Good luck my friend. My final piece of advice is the outcome doesn't matter as much as the act. What really matters is that you did it. Meditate on that thought for a little bit.

Wrong move.
You should have just said what you wanted to say. If she can’t so be it, just say you want to take a drink with her. Maybe she tells you when she is free.
You can’t expect people to drop everything for you the same day.
If you ask her again if she is busy later she will likely say yes again, because people don’t often improvise at the last second their plans.
Seems like you just wanted to save yourself from a potential rejection and pussy out which is a beta move.
Dude if she rejects your proposition so be it, you don’t have to take it personal or act butthurt about it. Stop protecting your ego it’s not doing you any good
