Not necessarily, I've been on a blind date and it was the worst experience in my life. I could not end it fast enough. She didn't speak and looked down the entire time. She was extremely shy and no matter what I tried to do to ease the situation and make her comfortable she made no attempt to make it better. Blind date or not, it comes down to whether both people on the date are willing to give it a try and out in effort. Usually you can tell before 2-3 hours if it's going to be a successful date or not

Your comment about being okay with a few seconds of silence is spot on. I forget where I read it but someone put out the idea that "silence + eye contact = sexual tension" and I've absolutely found it to be true.

Another good idea is figuring out a two part date, bouncing between places and making decisions together (even if you've already figured out the itinerary) is great for building a connection. It's also fun, you get to see the girl in a couple of different situations which can be illuminating.

i'd rather change zones. In terms of psychology being with her at 5 places in two hours creates a way more strong connection than being at 1. Plus you never run out of things to talk about.

Open with the innocuous and easy. "How was traffic?" Follow a couple threads of her response.

This breaks the ice, and isn't awkward because it easy, factual, doesn't really matter, and isn't personal.

Transition to the slightly more personal with questions about her job (or what she does/studies. etc.). Follow threads specifically to what she's passionate about (for example, why she got into that business, etc.).

This starts off easy and innocuous and transitions to deep and meaningful. All the while, there's nothing easier for someone to talk about than whatever they're passionate about.

Listen for the value phrases she uses, like "hard working", "generous", "good at what I do", "creative", "adventurous", etc., and repeat those exact phrases back to her. When someone hears you using the value terminology they hear in their own mind it makes them feel connected, like they know you.
