The most traditional advice is to write good first messages. Don't sound needy, keep it short, don't ask her job interview questions.

The best advice is to make the sort of profile that will make them want to message you. In the first year of my account I must have gotten 15-20 first messages/winks/4-5 star matches from attractive girls. Sound like your life has a purpose, don't act needy or self-deprecate, and have stuff to say about yourself that doesn't make you sound boring.

Depends on your definition of 'success'. I tried match, eharmony, plentyoffish and okcupid within the span of about 3-4 years with a little bit of luck here and there hooking up, but, needless to say, I'm still single. The few girls I've met on match were probably closer to an ideal relationship out of the 4 sites because I figure that the ones that are serious about finding a "match" would fork up some money whereas the old mantra, "you get what you pay for" applies with the free ones. Don't bother with eharmony.

You would think that okcupids "scientific" match making system would be a good way of finding someone, but it seems to me that these girls are expecting to be swept off their feet or waiting for Mr. Witty with that first message. My theory is that they've heard it all before and I have a hunch that 10% of the profiles on those free sites are fake.

I've since reverted to stepping up my game in real life and had more success with women than on those websites. I still keep active profiles on the free ones because I truley believe that a better and more ideal match can be found online. I haven't tried any of the newer ones that seem to be popping up left and right. I've even thought of starting my own with a 'chat roulette' component to it. heh.

I think it also depends on the city you're in. OKCupid sucks in my town. Speed dating also sucks in my town.

I've always had waves, Match, OKC, and in life in general. A trick with OkC is keep it changing. Add new text, blog, post new photos, the entry screen is as far as many people look, and you're much more likely to be on that if you keep things new.

Also, 208 weeks vs. 6. I'm not saying pine and get stuck in one-itis. But you may unconsciously be portraying either neediness or a desire for a replacement. intro messages should be 2 to 3 sentences unless you really have something to say.

At first I had shitty luck with okc, and I realized I was doing a few things wrong. #1: I was trying too hard, writing too much, and visiting their profiles too often. I kind of got oneitis going on with a few of them because of the match algorithm - I thought these should be the girls of my dreams. Don't do this. In fact, fuck the matching algorithm altogether. #2. I was not being direct enough. My messages were far too friendly and familiar. I've since switched it up and have gone from few replies to many, and have some dates set up. I will report on those later.

My messages are now short and playful. And I mean super fucking short. Stuff like "that dress in image #2 is kind of funny looking, did you sew it yourself?" or "it looks like you're trying to kill someone in image #3, are you a serial killer?" etc. They get responses because they're short and non-commital, and right off the bat they're playful so you've already set that tone. I use this to transition into meeting the people because, let's cut to the chase, that's what we're looking for here. I don't want to find out too much about them through okc because that takes the fun out of the seduction/attraction/learning process, and I'm up front with them about that.
